Please Help With Towing Specs
Hi all,
I have a 2005, 1500 quad cab 4x4 with 3.55 axle ratio and 17 inch rims. (short box 6.5) with 5.7L Hemi V8
I have a travel trailer (jayco Jayflight 29bhs) with a GVWR of 7500lbs.
uvw= 5565lbs (empty)
I tow it with usually 6000lbs total.
Can I actually tow this trailer???
Also, my hitch on the truck says max. tongue weight 500lbs with a max weight of 5000lbs.... I also have a weight distribution hitch now.

Way good. If you look on the dodge web site, they have a pretty good chart. weight dist hitch gives you another 500lbs. I have an 04 had the same gears as you. went to 4.56 last year. I tow 8500 lbs alot.
You should be fine. If you had the 20" wheels, you would lose around 1k lbs towing capacity. I have 04 hemi with 20's and have been towing rv's that weigh more than 6k loaded since i have owned it.
Are you towing from the bumper hitch or do you have a 2" receiver under it? What is stated on the bumper is for the bumper hitch and not the receiver. If our truck has tow/haul mode i would suggest towing in that, if not drop it out of OD to save your transmission. Also, a good proportional trailer brake controller is recomended/required for over 3500lbs.
