So i went to start up my truck on Sunday and noticed that AC was blowing hot. Being that i live in Phoenix and its about 112 this time of year AC is a must. I have a family friend that works at a local shop so i decided to toss the work his way instead of doing it myself in my driveway while its over 100 out. Was only going to be about $150 difference in price anyways. We noticed the compressor was kicking off after spinning for a good minute or two when we first started the truck. Assuming it was a pressure issue i checked and it was way over. So i let the pressure out, and the compressor is spinning fine and not kicking off, just still blowing hot. When we check the freon its showing about a pound low. We add it in and nothing, still blowing hot. Slightly aggitated i check the pressure, and again its in the red and the compressor is kicking off again. Between that and the internal wind the compressor was making we decided the compressor was no good. We replaced the compressor, accumulator, and expansion valve, recharged it, and nothing. so we checked the AC lines, one was partially clogged and the other was completely. I was able to blow out one with an air compressor and the second had to be replaced. Get it all back together, the compressor works, lines are clear, system is charged, still blowing hot. Now me and this seasoned mechanic cant figure out what the hell is going on, and a 3 hour project has now had my truck sitting in his shop for 4 days. If anyone has any pointers, ideas, help, it would be greatly appreciated.

 

Blend door maybe? They are known for this. Also try running the ac and have someone with hose shoot/stream water on the condenser. An old condenser can deteriorate over time and affect heat transfer. Also maybe temp dial switch is bad also.

Is the condensor fan running? Fan runs to help transfer heat. it should come on when you turn the a/c on. You said lines were pluged. Plug with what. Metal? that will plug the condensor as well. Let us know what you find.
