My '08 1500 SXT 3.7 has a trailer hitch that has is built to haul with a bumper ball hitch. Looking at it, I do not see any way to put a receiver hitch on it except to pull off the whole trailer hitch, frame and all and buy a new expensive complete hitch. Is there anyone that knows about an adapter made to use with a bumper hitch so I can use a lowered receiver hitch or one that is lowered/dropped?
I've beat this thing all over the internet looking for something like I need with no luck.
THANKS!
The bumper will never be strong enough to support a receiver hitch. Your current towing capacity should be handled by the bumper hitch anyway. I suspect your capacity is around 5,000# as it stands now. A receiver hitch won't change that.
It's a cheap selling point but nothing short of an actual real reciever will make you able to tow anything over 1500#'s or able to drop the mounting point lower.

The hitch is a full under-carriage frame that bolts to the truck frame. The ball attaches through that, so there really is no bumper pull. It looks just like the ones for the receiver hitches. So after all that I'll probably have to purchase the whole Kit & Caboodle to really get a receiver. I have not been able to find any such attachable add-ons that will bolt up to the installed hitch frame.
Thanks for the reply.
