My 2002 ram wont shift out of neutral. I was towing a car on a tow dolly and started to take off and my wife told me to stop because there was a problem with the dolly. I came to a stop and threw into park like usual and went to get out and it was trying to roll away. I looked and it was in neutral even though the shifter is in park. The shifter was no tension on it now and i have no way to work Monday. I assume its the cable? If it is how do i replace it? There was no codes, no fluid on the ground, and it made no noise when it happened.

Please help. Im really need my fix ASAP.

 

Crawl under the truck and check the linkage

 

Which side is it on and what am i looking for? A broke linkage or a disconnected cable?

 

So after some investigating turns out the collar that goes on the spline shaft somehow popped off. Easy fix. Im glad thats all it was. thanks

 

Hey, i had an issue with my 2003 1500 when i first bought it used. I had the truck for not even 2-3 weeks when it wouldnt shift from gear to park. it turned out to be the clips holding the cable in place. It took a local tranny shop by me an hour to fix it, and replace the clips(at no parts charge.) Best bet, throw the truck in neutral, put the parking brake on, and use the spare keys to get in and out til you get it fixed.
