TIPM (totally integrated power module) interchangability
I was having issues with my headlights and wiper fluid. Thought it was my FEM...but I also had issue with oil light coming on for no reason and my airbag light would sometimes stay on. Changed the front end module and still had head light issues. Then I read about hard reset of TIPM....so i did it. And low and behold my lights work, wipers work and the oil and air bag lights don't come on needlessly. Would suggest if you have weird electrical issue try the hard reset. I left it over night to make sure the solenoid was completely drained. Good luck!!
I know this is an older thread, but I am at my wits end with my TIPM. I'm hoping someone here can help because it seems that I am just throwing money away. Here is the story and current situation.
I have a 2008 Ram 2500 4x4, 6.7 with 6 speed manual, electric shift transfer case.
A few months ago, my truck wouldn't shift to 4x4, high or low. I kept fooling with it and it finally shifted, but when it did, the truck shut down. Truck started back up and was in 4hi, but wouldn't return to 2wd. I kept messing with it and it went to 4lo and truck died again. After it shifted to 4lo, it was stuck in 4lo. I ended up removing the T-Case motor and manually shifting it back to 2wd. I replaced the T-Case motor, but it wouldn't shift and I had the service 4x4 light on and while driving it, the 4hi & 4lo lights on the dash would flash randomly. So I changed the TIPM with a reman from Cardone. I still had random 4hi & 4lo lights flashing along with service 4x4, then the nuetral light on shift **** would come on randomly. I then changed the shift ****. After this the truck seemed fixed for a day or so. Then while driving down the road, it shifted into 4lo on its own. I was lucky enough to clutch it and pull over without exploding the T-Case. I shut the truck off for a few minutes and when I started it back up, it shifted back to 2wd. Later that day, the 4lo light started flashing, so I pulled over and it shifted to 4lo on its own again. This time it wouldn't shift back to 2wd, so I pulled the T-Case motor and shifted it manually. Currently, I have the motor unplugged. The service 4x4 light is on, which I understand why. The weird thing now is, when I turn my headlights on, the 4hi light flashes and it I cycle the headlight switch, the 4hi light stays on.
My question is..... could the Reman TIPM I bought be faulty? Could the T-Case motor be faulty? Should I try changing the TIPM with a brand new Mopar one along with a brand new T-Case motor and change them at the same time?
The Reman Cardone TIPM said that it didn't need to be flashed by the dealer. Would taking it to the dealer and having them flash it fix my issues? And if I bought a Brand New Mopar TIPM need to be flashed by the dealer?
Thanks for any incite on this issue, Im at my wits end.

I dug around on All Data yesterday, I found the test for the codes that its throwing, which is C140D & C1405. I did the test for C140D, which turned out to be the Tcase motor bad, which I guess you can get bad parts everyday. I didnt have time to do the test for the C1405 code, which it will tell me if the TIPM is bad. I'm wondering if the TIPM is putting more than 5.5 volts to the tcase motor and burning it up.
Seems like Dodge was sued for their lack of acknowledging this PROBLEM!

Not sure on AL vs AG. Could be diesel vs gas vs v6...dunno. Could even be for a dakota or durango. I canot say.
I don't know wht programming is preset or if any at all in the new TIPM's.
I doubt you'll be able to even start your truck and if so, you'll set off tons of lights.
Lets not stick it to the next guy... Just go park in the deal lot, change out the tipm and walk into service dept and say you need it to be programmed or what they call Configuring it. It takes 20min to swap out if that(Just dont break the clips) and another 20min for them to configure it.
The ONLY issue with buying online and having dealer program it....No real warranty

I'm new on this forum . And late on this topic
To reset the Totally Integrated Power Module you need to disconnect
both battery cables and join them together for a few hours, this would drain
all the capacitor and do a "Hard Reset" .
I have tested that on my 2005 Dodge Magnum , trying to ad Bluetooth module for phone connection .
The TIPM gave a code saying there is a new controller on the CAN Bus
And I could not see the HFM (Hands Free Module) in my scanner
After doing this hard reset , the HFM came online , I could see it on my Solus scanner.
So likely if you find a TIPM that fits your vehicle generation , it should relearn all your components and option on your vehicle.
I will try a used one on my Magnum and be back with results. Just for fun .

Definately NOT interchangeable! Even the same year tipm would need to be programmed to your specific vehicle/cluster.
They also need to be programmed via Starscantool which means you are at the mercy of the dealership.
2006 ones are up around $900 installed(these had most troube with trailer fuse circuit)
2007's are about $7-800 installed
2008's are least expensive ay about $6-700 installed.
HERE's a brand new one for $650 shipped and all you need to do is instal ; it and have it programmed by dealer. You cannot start/drive until then as it needs to be properly configured to your truck.
They have specific years and options as far as TIPMs go when ordering, then they need to be programmed to your vin #.
Now, you could buy one online, install it yourself in the dealer parkinglot and then pay for them to program it at 1hr diagnostic fee because it only takes them 15min.
There is such a thing as a tipm Re-configuration which allows the dealer to flash everything to initial settings and clear all the codes out / If vods are still Active after a reflash then there is a def problem. Dealers are quick to suggest a full replacement because most dont know how to properly diagnose electrical issue's. Let's face it, they are mechanics(mechanical) not electrical engineers!
No bus Comm could be faulty airbag module, no radio, popped cigar fuse which doesnt allow Comm through OBD-II plug and ofcourse there could also be a short somewhere as all the circuits are canbus(multiple operations fed off one line)This causes many issue's for one short.

Tipm died in neighbours 2010 wrangler. Searched and only one year made for that tipim. Que bababababulls$t. Just got back from the junk yard, spent 25$ on a tipm from a 2010 grand caravan. Guess what, FIXED and everything works perfectly no codes no drama FIXED!!! No programing nothing!
I just realized I never follow up with my FCM - TIPM story.
So on my ,05 Magnum , scanner would see the HFM present , but because it is not enable , it does not work.
So Using Alfa OBD or APPcar Diag FCA I simply enable the Hands Free Module . In the menu you select "Set" instead of "Not Set"
and of course a key cycle to reboot. After everything was working right.
So if you find a correct generation "TIPM" or "Gateway Module"(FCM) it should work , no need for vin writing
but if it came from a lesser equipped vehicle a few function will not work properly until "Set' or "Enable" with Alfa OBD
If it came from a fancier vehicle , a few codes might show up because of missing hardware from those extra options.
