Default Transmission issues

Hi, I have a 2002 Ram 2500 4x4 5.9l gas truck automatic transmission, and the transmission is acting funky. for 1st 10 or so minutes, it works normal. Then the general problem is shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Way high rpms to get it to go to 3rd, and sometimes it drops back to 2nd to soon. When driving at highway speeds, things seem normal all the time. It's only at lower local speeds. Tried manually shifting but no help. The one thing I noticed, but don't know if it's normal, when I manually put the truck in 1st gear, the gas pedal has resistance when pushing down on it. Not sure if this is a sign or not. Lastly, the tranny seems to work normal for a few minutes after shutting down and re-starting. So it's still hot. It just seems like it could be a simple fix. Thanks
