48RE Trans Problem
I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with 5.9 CTD AND 48RE trans~ out of warranty. I've been getting the 1st to 2nd "float" between gears at low speed so I figured it was was the governor solenoid and sensor and planned on changing it this weekend. However, yesterday the truck as I was starting to pass kicked down and it was like it had no power. The truck was like it would go any faster no matter how much further I pushed the pedal. I was just wondering if this was a symptom for a bad Governor too, or maybe another problem. 52k miles and the stealership did a band adjustment at 35k.
First thing I would do is extract the codes. Do the key trick. Start with the key in the acc position. Then go to the on position. Do this 3 times. Acc...on...acc...on...acc...on. a code will pop up were the mileage is displayed.
To absolutely isolate this issue to those two gadgets, pull your eight pin plug from the trans.. this will make it require driver input to shift.. fire it up, drop it in first, build speed, shift to second, ect... When you stop you'll have to drop to first again...
If the trans shifts like it should when you move the lever, you can guarantee its electronics causing the issue.. if it doesn't, you've got other issues..

Fixed! Changed the fluid, filter, solenoid and transducer and after starting up the engine light went off. Shifts great with all my power back.....thanks guys.....

Turns out the problem is back. After a 175 mile drive on the freeway, I went to pass someone going about 70 and the transmission kicked down with no power to pass. The pedal seemed dead in that no matter if I pushed it down harder, there was no power increase. Then, the engine light came on with the same P0148 code. I want to avoid the dealer if I can so any suggestions on where to start would be helpful.
Do a fuel volume return test on each cylinder to figure out which injector is jacked up.. or.. dig deep in your pockets and replace them all.. this is a common issue on common rail cummins..
I'd rec you head over to the diesel board to get some expert advise..
