4wd lock Problems
Uh... guess you didn't read the follow up post. I fixed the damn thing myself, without any further overpriced dealership service. I think one point of this forum is to help owners out. When you have already had similar problems, it can save them the time and money that you might have already spent getting a problem fixed.
I would have no problem "taking the damn thing to the dealership" if thier fees were resonable. They are overpriced, but you can have at it, if you like!

Ramdomal - how did you actually get the problem fixed? I just reread the entire thread and did not see any reply or fix noted.
I have an '06 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 Quad Cab, seeing issue with 4wd slow to disengage, hearing a loud "thump/thud" when it finally goes back to 2wd.
Have seen a couple of items that do seem to make sense - replacing the "actuator," and replacing the differentual fluid. Have ~ 97.5k miles on my rig, way past time to do the fluid..........next day above 10 deg. F here in VT and it will get done! Any thoughts very appreciated! Thanks much!

My problem ended up being the wiring harness routing around the passenger side of the engine. It came off of the support bracket and was wearing against the stud on the valve cover. Rubbed through the insulation, and it just happened to be the 4wd actuator wiring. I actually repair and manufacture wiring harnesses at work, so it turned out to be an easy fix, once I found the problem.
