Default T-stat leaking

I have replaced the t-stat about 8 months ago now its leaking again. Has anybody had problems with the housing. I'm going to buy another gasket or stat and thinking of replacing the housing. Is this a common problem.

It's a 2004 ram 1500 with the hemi.

Thanks for the help.

Nope, not too common. Put you some RTV on the gasket this time and you should be golden...

ditto. I always use RTV sealant with paper gaskets. If there is ever an o-ring type gasket for those, a small bead on the outer edge helps as well. It'll help if the contact area the o-rings rests against isn't prefectly smooth/clean because oxidization of the aluminum is inevitable with coolant.

Don't know if this is a contributing factor or not but....the Tstat housing is supposed to fit one way on the 5.7.
It should have "front" stamped on it Si it faces forward.
Just a thought??

Make sure you tighten the houseing evenly, 1/4 turns at a time. If not in can warp the houseing and put uneven persser on the gasget and the leak in a short amout of time.
