Default 2003 Dodge 1500 4x4 front differential problem

hello, new to the site! great info so far.
ok..here goes.... i was pulling my friends 25' boat out before hurricane sandy came....i had the truck in low 4x4 as its a pretty heavy boat and it makes it easy to idle out....his boat was hung up on something so he really gassed it and it popped my truck out of gear...it almost rolled back into the water...i jumped through window and slammed on brakes....here is the problem...
I have a front end noise...cv joints? differential..dont think transfer case.,.,,,its clunky and noisy while in 2wd...if i put in 4wd it goes away...but i dont think 4 wheel drive working bc i was able to break rear wheels loose in dirt.....also the front drive shaft spins free while in park...cv boots jump around when i spin it... i hope its only the cv joints...

Does it spin freely while in park in 4wd? Is the front wheels off the ground? If the cv joints in the boot are jumping around then I would say cv joint is a problem.
