Aftermarket Security/Remote Start System
Has anyone had and aftermarket Security/Remote Start (Clifford or Viper) installed on their truck that already has a factory Security/Key-less system??
I ask because I am wondering if you would have Program Problems with adding to the factory system.
My thought is to loose the factory key-fob and just have a Std. Key and Aftermarket Fob for the new key-less entry/security/remote start system.
I have had a Clifford System installed on my car, but that car didn't have any factory security system or key-less entry. That is why I am wondering if there would be an issue with the computer.
Thoughts or Experiences??

Did not install mine but installer had no issues removing the factory alarm/remote starter and installing my Viper 5902. It's a non sentry setup so no bypass module was needed.

If your installer tells you he/she is going to "remove" the OEM security system you will run into a lot of problems down the road.
You will need an ignition immobilizer bypass (I suggest the 556UW - [google it]), and a spare valet key that is capable of starting the truck.
The other electronically programmed units have trouble when the battery dies and/or when you change the battery where they lose programming all together and need to be reprogrammed before you can start your truck again.
You will also require some additional labor to integrate your OEM security system to the Viper alarm, as the Viper has outputs and inputs that allow for integration. In some rare cases you might need an additional relay, but I don't have the wiring diagrams in front of me so I couldn't tell you 100% off the top of my head.
I used to work for Best Buy as an MECP certified AutoTech, before I got my engineering degree and got a big boy job (har har har)... so that's where my experience comes from.

Izero,
What kind of Problems might you run into if you remove the OEM Security System??
If you don't remove the OEM system, can you piggy back onto it with a Viper or Clifford system??

As stated above, yes, both Viper and Clifford systems have integration to disable the OEM system to allow the truck to start.
Problems can vary from the truck not starting at all, to electronics turning on and off (power door locks and dome light are most common) and a whole lot more, all depends on how/what was done to "disable" the OEM Security System, which is why you have to integrate it into the aftermarket R/S & Keyless Entry system.
