Default Dropping the pan on my 03 hemi 4x4, advice needed, also oil psi issue

Hey guys,

I lurk on here a lot but i just signed up. i have an 03 quad cab hemi with 90k on it.

I traded my '11 tundra in on it and got rid of my payments. apparently the moron that owned it before me never really took care of anything so all i've done is fix his BS. Anyway, I almost have it all ironed out but my oil pan is rotten and i have a weird oil psi issue.

the pan issue first. Do i absolutely have to lift the motor to get the old pan out? Can i drop the diff/3rd member? is that easier? I've read a few conflicting reports from people.

2nd issue is when i start the truck it reads 0 psi. No tapping or anything to indicate a true 0 psi oil pressure. If i shut the truck off and restart it i get normal psi (at least on the stock gauge).

since the pan will be down i'll clean out the pickup... i'll actually probably replace the oil pump while i'm in there. But anyone have any experience with that issue? i've heard it can be from sludge around the pickup.

Thanks guys! and i'm glad to be part of this forum!

Default Oil Pressure issues

I have an '04 1500 5.7 with 130000kms on it and have a similar issue during cold starts, oil pressure indicates zero, if I shut it off and restart it pressure returns to normal.
If you have any luck locating the possible cause of your issue, please let me know.

I changed the oil pressure sending unit last weekend and so far this week things have been good. No restarts required to get the gauge to "work", so it was a good $33.00 investment.

If the truck is 2WD you can drop the oil pan no problem. 4WD will be more work.
