Default 2004 Ram 3500 Diesel won't engage park??

Okay guys i'm new here and may be posting in the wrong section but if you can solve my problem it would be very helpful

Just purchased a 2004 3500 dually diesel with 80,000 miles and the transmission won't engage park. I thought it was a simple shift cable adjustment because the dash indicator also would not go to park. So I adjusted the cable and now the dash indicator shows the transmission in park but the transmission isn't. I check the function of the shift lever on the transmission and it looks okay. It appears the park pawl is not engaging any help would be GREAT!

Report your post to a moderator and have it moved to the diesel section...

Does the truck stay in a forward gear, neutral or a reverse gear when you put it in park? (or do you not know b/c you can't get it to start?)

You may also want to see if there are any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) as those will help you identify the problem. Use the Key method to try and get them.

Truck drives fine shifts through all gears with gear selector, shift into park on the selector and shows park on the dash. Been driving it all week just got to remember to apply parking brake or the truck will roll away.
Is the parking pawl applied on the truck by electronics or mechanical
