Truck will not start
Not sure how many miles you have on your truck.... But last I knew these PCM's are covered for, I think 100,000miles or 150,000miles as they fall under the emisions system.
Check your warrenty first, as the dealer may cover it. HTH's

are the PCM's really considered under the emissions systems? man, that makes no sense at all.. they could just as easily be considered under drive train..
you're going to want to have the new PCM flashed to your VIN at a dealer.. sucks, I know, but that is the only way to match it up properly..
My '02 was fobbed.. and the key was chipped.. to my knowledge, all dodge's post '98 are all coded to a key..
there are no less than three base sets for flashes- mostly to do w/ emissions- Federal, California, and based.. within those there are more.. based on options of the truck, your main relay block may be wired differently than another truck that came off the line in front or behind it- meaning the flashes are different as well..
I once tried to run a tune for a duplicate vehicle on mine, by reflashing the entire PCM- that was a mistake.. the gauges didn't work, and it ran so bad I didn't even put it into gear.. We looked at the relay blocks, and they matched.. We looked at everything we thought would play a role, and they were duplicate.. in the end, I flashed the truck back to what it was and just altered individual tables via SCT tuning package- whallah- it worked fine with no other changes whatsoever...
I ain't trying to start a pissing contest on a message board, I'm just trying to help you out by telling you your best bet is having the PCM flashed by a dealer, and done so by using your VIN...
all that said, the #1 place to start before you swap PCM's, is looking over every single connection at the PCM itself, and following leads to and from ground and battery..

The truck has 135000 on it with no mods. The truck will crank but won't start. All of the warning lights come on but no gauges. I know it has a full tank cause i filled just before it died. And the gauge reads empty. And the battery gauge is at zero. So like i said no gauges but i do have lights and the truck will crank. No power to coil or fuel pump either.
Then there is a problem with your PCM... Buy a new one from the dealer with a flash (if needed) and go from there... also try a different key, sometimes if the Key fob got too close to a magnet or something they get screwed up and won't start the truck...
Okay. Thanks. I don't have a key fob for the truck. I never got one with it. I knew its not coded cause i got a key made from a hardware store and it starts the truck. I really do appreciate the advise.
There are multiple issues with this thread...
There is no way to know if the pcm is bad by taking it out and putting it in your buddies truck.. there may be a little more to be known if his were to work in your truck instead.. if the options, features, emissions, and type of sensors all matched, you could maybe determine if your pcm is bad in the way you've gone about it, but I seriously doubt that is the case..
Your key is absolutely chipped, dude.. and do you know what the pcm does when you run an unchipped key in the truck for longer than its programmed to allow?? It locks the pcm down.. as in a 'no bus' code.. when you put your pcm in your buddies truck that has an activated security feature, all your doing is taking the same issue over to his truck.. and that, only if the features, options, emissions and sensor configuration match on his truck to how they are mapped on yours..
Do yourself a favor.. check the grounds as previously stated, check the harnesses on the pcm for any wear.. check all of the relays.. all of them.. if that doesn't pan out, remove your pcm and carry it to a dealer.. have them flash it according to your vin.. it may have been a simple write error that caused a degradation of the programming, and corrupted it, and if fortune smiles on you, all you'll have to do is have it reflashed..
