New door weatherstrip is on...
I had the "old" door weatherstrip on my '05 reg cab and both sides were tearing where the front door edge drug over it when opening and closing after only a couple months. Apparently, that is common (though a friend's '04 hasn't torn). In fact, my small town dealer had replacements in stock for the Quad-cab and knew exactly what my problem was when I told them. Someone here supplied a relevant TSB, as well.
I showed it to my dealer and a week later (Katrina delayed things a bit, it seems) new-style replacements were in. A tech installed the new ones while the truck set in the driveway to the service bay while I waited. I hardly had time to find my place in my book I was reading before the tech was done! He must have done a bunch of them already; it couldn't have taken more than two or three minutes per door.
Yes the new parts are considerably different. But, to save money I guess they decided to continue installing the old style until they ran out, expecting few to notice the damage or care.
If you haven't yet, I'd suggest checking your truck weatherstrip where the front edge of the door changes from vertical to diagonal and if torn, get new!
All the best.
