Default Heater Controls

Hello again! So as of yesterday, my heater controls stopped working....

All i have is vent. The **** does not turn freely so i doubt it is broken. Over the last couple months when i switch from vent to floor or defrost, it could take 20-30 seconds before it actually switched. Now, it does not switch at all. A defroster is a must here in the winter.

I read through the Chilton manual which is utterly useless, so i figure someone here can point me in the right direction!

Blend doors.

Grab an 04 service manual from the FAQ section. Scroll through it and see if you can come up with anything.

I'm just the 2nd gen lurker, someone else more helpful shall arrive. (hopefully)

I have the 04 manual, i am just wondering what all NEEDS to be changed, what i should look for, etc. Not to keen on going into a job blind. I dont mind doing the work, but not sure what i am looking for failure wise, etc

Do a search here for heat problems.
you probably have an issue with the actuator or damper that directs air to the defrost duct.
You have to disassemble the entire lower half of the dash to get at the motors.
the defrost one should be the one on the left, roughly upwards and to the left of the hvac control panel. (from memory, and I have problems remembering my name)
You could then 'swap' wiring harnesses between motors, and manipulate, to id the problem. If the damper is broken, (and it may be), the entire dash has to come out, the coolant drained, a/c charge recovered,
And then there's the steel structure behind the dash, which everything plastic attaches to. I could not free that steel, so I cut the tacks and bolted for reassembly.
the hvac box is behind the steel.
Chiltons and Haynes do not cover everything, and neither does you tube. But, you'll get the idea.
