Oil Pressure Drop, -40 Celsius, clunking sound now.
First off, it's a Hemi, running 5w20 mobil1 synthetic.
Second, I was letting the truck idle for a bit before setting off for work, it's a 4-5 minute drive, maybe a 1/2 mile. I went out to leave for work, unplugged the block heater, put it in reverse an noticed that the oil pressure was on "L" and the check engine (red) light was on. Then I opened the door and heard a clicking, then a clunking, and then I shut the truck off and parked it. I figured it wasn't getting any oil, so I turned it off immediately. I popped the hood. Oil level is fine. I popped the oil filler cap off and noticed steam coming out, and there was ice on underside of cap.
Anyways, I had to work, so I grabbed a ride with the girlfriend. My dad came by and put one of those magnetic oil pan heaters on the truck and left it from about 10AM to 3:30PM. He then started it, the gauges were normal, and he drove it to a neighbor's heated garage. And there it sits for now.
Anyways, he was figuring the short trips are what caused the problem, and I'm inclined to go with that answer.
What do you guys think? Should I flush the oil system just to be safe?

I think I would plan a long drive to vaporize the water. As long as there aren't any actual mechanical problems, like a coolant leak into the oil, you're fine. Having some condensation in the oil is not uncommon. It's the regular regimen of driving 1/2 mile to work everyday and the buildup that's causing this. I think at this point, it may be a good idea to change the filter as the canister is most likely full of water-----water will not go through the filter pleat once the pleat is soaked with oil------or do a oil and filter change.
