Default Burning oil, what weight should I use this oil change.

Im not sure why, but my truck has been burning a lot of oil. Around 1quart every 1000mi. Im thinking its due to my short drive distances to work, me driving only 55mph of the freeway, etc. The truck runs perfect and still has tons of power, no smoke out the tail pipe or anything unusual. I run royal purple synthetic with 5-30w oil if I remember correctly.

Anyway, Im changing to oil within the next few days and was wondering if a different weight oil can improve my oil burning problem. I live in warm socal so I don't need to worry about cold temperatures.

Seems like you're changing the oil already!!

You might wanna start looking for where all the oil going. Pull the TB and take a look into the intake plenum, lots of oil, time for gaskets. Clean the engine external, look for leaks. Check the EGR, see if its working OK

If there's no smoke from the exhaust, it isn't burning the oil. Heavier oil will sometimes slow down a leak.

What year and engine do you have??
Do you have a PCV on that engine?
I've read that when these go bad, you can use oil??

There is no EGR on an 03 but there is a PCV.
It's on the top left side of the inlet manifold just underneath the Hemi hat looking from the front of the truck.
You got to twist it one quarter turn to pull it out.
It has a black plastic tab to help you do this.
