I personally dont dave a lift on my truck, but ive read that lifts and levels can be hard on front suspension. it puts an extreme angle on the cv shafts. if youve got a lift, its gonna put more wear and tear on parts. thats just how it is.
Sounds like torsion keys or someone cranked them up. I've seen what happens to these trucks once you pass the 2" mark (not gonna lie, I cranked the t-bars to about 3" in my 02 as well lol) and its pretty much like you described... so yes the only way is to lower it back down a bit or better yet all the way and your front end will forgive you haha.
Were the axle shafts being pulled off the splines as well?
