Default 2004 Ram Carrier bearing cap wear

While rebuilding my rear end my mechanic notice the carrier bearing cap and housing on passenger side are grooved pretty good. Looks like it still has most of the material around threads in housing but there is only about 3/8" of material where groove is located and the cap is about the same. Look like it could hold torque however how long will it last with $$$$ in new parts? Is there any side load on these threads? Look around for used rear ends, hard to find, not cheap and most of them have more miles than mine. Could end up with same problem. Has anyone put one of these grooved caps back together with any success?
