i just bought a used 2002 dodge ram quad cab 4x4 , 4.7L . before i bought this truck it had a cel on and they cleared it, they said it was the gas cap. 2 days after i bought it, the light came on again. the code is p1698. i love the truck but when im in reverse and turn the wheel it makes a grinding or clunking sound like somehting is misssing. it doesnt do it all the time. what could this mean?

 

A p1698 means the pcm is not recieving a bus message from the tcm. The vehicle bus is one wire that runs to each module as there means of communication. This could be a broken wire, bad connection, or possibly a bad module. Unless your pretty sure about what your doing and have some good wiring diagrams you should probably take it to your dealer.

 

where did u happen to buy the truck? because i had a 2002 ram blue/silver with 4.7 4x4, cold air intake and it had the same code when i traded it in. just kinda curious
