Default Help, rear differential keeps going out!

Hey guys, I have an 03 dodge ram 4.7l. My rear differential went out on me 15k miles ago. I changed the gears and swaped them for 4.10 gears. Now I hear the same noise coming from the rear end. Gears sound like they grind when I let off the gas. I'm pretty sure it's something with gears again. What the hell?

Maybe the key word here is YOU changed the gears. What experience have you had at setting up differentials? Done right they will last forever and done wrong they will fail like you've experienced, With the questions you're asking, it seems you aren't a qualified mechanic as far as differentials go. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. It sounds to me like the lash is wrong, but I'm no differential expert for sure

I have to agree. Setting up gears, pattern, backlash and more all requires more skills than a few hand tools

I didn't do it myself. My mechanic is a relative of mine that's a master mechanic. He's gonna finally look at it today. I haven't drove it all week.

Grab your rear driveshaft see if it moves up and down, Ive blown two stock 9.25's in my 98 both time was the pinion bearing. Made the same noise you descibed.
