Default Rack leaking?? I think...

Hi hi, I was just wondering if anyone could help me out, my 03 ram 1500 is leaking power steering fluid, and the rack is soaked. I'm not sure if the rack is leaking, but that's the only thing I can think of. Trucks only got 73k miles on it. Thanks in advance!!

Check the clamp on the return line from the cooler. Mine was leaking and since it's above, it dripped all over and soaked a good portion below before eventually leaking enough to drip on the floor.

if you have the 5.7 the oil filter sits right above the passenger rack boot. If you had an oil change and they didn't clean it, it will look like the rack is leaking as well.

I had this same problem. During cold weather it looked like my power steeing pump was leaking fluid. I cleaned the pump and the 2 lines going to the power steering cooler below the radiator. Top up fluid with ATF+4 trans fluid (do not use power steering fluid). Drove it for a day and noticed the clamps on the lines had fluid dripping off of them. There are 3 clamps and 1 pressure fitting on these 2 lines. The clamps cannot be tightened and they lose their clamping force over time.

I replaced the 3 stock hose clamps:

With new hose clamps:

Cleaned lines and the pump again. No leaks for over a year

I have a hose fitting that leaks from time to time. Replacement clamps slowed it down, but did not completely stop it.

If you have fluid coming out of the boots on the rack you gotta either change the rack or buy a rebuild kit for it. I just changed my whole rack and all hose's. $200 rebuilt unit from autozone. Its not difficult at all. It you do change the rack you might as well get new outer tie rods as well. Make sure you get it re-aligned.
