mostly iam on the dakota thread. but i have a friend that has a ram 1500 he tows in town a 3 to 4k trailer hauling mowing equ. i think he has a 318, with no trouble. he is wanting to get a "new" truck. the big Q is which engine? he thinks he needs a bigger engine. he is asking about the 5.7 or ,4.7 i think so to. help thanks.

If he gets a 4.7 he will regret it until the day he owns a hemi (5.7). Might as well do it right the first time, especially considering he'll be towing.

Technically speaking, a 4.7 would be a smaller engine. Definitely recommend going with the 5.7.

Talking in terms of power from my experience with Daks and Rams over the last 15 years, A new 4.7 with the 3.92 gearing will out haul a 5.2, but would certainly snag the 5.7 if it was me. I guess if he's happy with the 5.2, he'll be happy with a 4.7 but there isn't really any drawback to getting the 5.7 in the first place other than price.
