Unhappy Chunk, chunk or squeak, squeak in the front end

2006 Ram 2500 SLT Quad Cab diesel 4x4, when turning at any speed there is a chunk and/or squeak with each rotation of the wheel. I assume it's the front U joints (or do they use CV joints now?). Took it to a dealer, they said both "U joints" need to be replaced. They said $180 per side for the U joints and 3.5 hours labor at their shop rate of $125/hour per side ($1260 total). I think they are getting a single side confused with both sides as I thought it would be less than half that. Am I messed up and they are okay on pricing, or the other way around?

Also wanted to charge me $190 to change the fuel filter!
