Default R&R catalytic converter

I have to replace my converter which is bad and I have a hole in the pipe just before it. No it is not the C02 sensor, ha, ha. but, anyway, I bought a replacement direct fit system that replaces from the manifolds to the muffler. What I don't know is what all needs to be removed to remove the old system and put the new one in. I bought it from orielly's auto parts. I drive a 02 dodge ram 1500 4x4, 4.7 litre engine. I could use just a little bit of help on this one. I think I will have to remove one torsion key but don't really know. Does it sound like the right direction?

it is hard to say anything with out seeing just what you have !!!
But I wouldn't think you need to touch any part of your suspension !!!!
your exhaust is in pieces for many different reasons one is for assembly

remove the old and install the new !

Oh ya and Exhaust works SUCKS lol

Just remember to buy new OEM Exhaust manifold gaskets... b/c you will need to replace those...

I can't say what will need to be removed without seeing it or knowing what exactly you bought, but I can say that if you have to remove part of your suspension to put it in then I would return that Exhaust System and buy a more reputable brand that doesn't need you to remove suspension components.

It comes in two pieces which i would of thought would allow it to be put in without removing any suspension. It is a magna flow exhaust. My problem is getting the old catalytic converter out with the unless i cut the pipes off forward of the converter. Then i don't know for sure if the new one will fit in. Should the old one just slide out the back or is there a trick to it?

there should be a flange on either side of the cat... disconnects from the headers and then disconnects from the mid pipe...

Then everything should come out in pieces.

Going in is the hard part... Make sure you have the right model number kit from Magnaflow... as sometimes the chain auto parts stores screw up and give you the wrong stuff....

this might sound stupid, by jacking the truck up with floor jack, will that lift the body enough to slide out the old converter? And allow the new one to be installed?

Sorry no help here. But I know where your coming from. Very tight in there! Let us know how it goes. I will be into the same type of job as well at some point in the future.
Good Luck.

Far from simple if you ask me. Specially on your back. Were talking an 02 here and probably rusted tight too. For starters the y pipe bolts at the manifold will most likely be rusted to rat **** and have to be cut off. Sawzalling the y pipe and converter out should be okay and hopefully the converter will pass by the torsion bar??? If not another set back to deal with! Next your probably going to need torches to make a slit or heat to the cc pipe or intermediate pipe to get it off. Patience here because this is where your new converter pipe will attach.

Hopefully for the OP the removal will be easier than I describe! But now he still has to install the new converter and y pipe and deal with the possibility of the torsion bar in the way.
He will have to deal with removing two O2 sensors as well.
This will be a very big job for most people at home!
