Need help!! got new k&n air intake now truck dies
I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 4.7L engine. I just put in a new K&N air intake on it two days ago, and it seems to be idleing low and has died 3 or 4 times when i was stopped or had it in park. Today is the first day I have driven it a considerable amount since putting on the air intake. My dad and i put it on, and did everything as directed. What could be the problem? The only non-stock parts it has is k&n air intake and Flowmaster exhaust.
Did it have a place to connect the mass airflow sensor?..sometimes these intakes will not have a place for it and it gets left dangling.Since its a K&N I would think that it does though.Just a thought
There is no Mass Airflow Sensor on any Dodge Ram from 2002-2009 possibly even newer models too..
If this is an Oiled Filter then you might have put too much Oil on it and it is not letting enough air get through...
Go get the K&N Air Filter Cleaning kit and follow the instructions.
You must let the filter dry before you apply the oil and you need to let it sit for a time (listed on the box) after oiling before you install and run on the truck...

I usually let mine sit overnight, 20 minutes is never enough time for the oil to dry enough.
I don't have one on my Hemi and it wouldn't hurt it as much b/c it has a MAP sensor instead of a MAF, so the oil won't clog it up and damage it.
Side Note: It's bad to put a wet filter on any engine that uses a MAF sensor.
Our trucks don't have a MAF sensor so it's okay to do it, but it might eventually cause excess fine particles of dirt/debris to build up on any oil that got passed the filter.
