Wierd oil pressure problem...
I have a 02 Ram 1500 w/ a 4.7 engine and recently I've noticed that my "Check Gages" light will come on, and my oil pressure gauge will drop to L and then go back to the middle. This only happens when the truck is stopped at an idle, like sitting at a light. And every time it's happened I've checked the oil shortly after and there was plenty of oil on the dip stick. It's also doesn't effect how the truck runs or anything. The gauge is normal while driving, but every once in a while, it acts up.
Oh yeah figured I'd toss this in here instead of making a new thread. I ran the truck at the track today, and managed to pull a 16.96@79mph. I was dissappointed, but I had to remind myself it's a truck, not my racecar, and it's stock. Good baseline I guess.
P.S. The oil pressure / gauge problem started before I took the truck to the track.

Hey Fstlane88 did you ever find out what the problem was. My check gages light came on yesterday and no gages were spiking or falling. The light went out and I thought nothing of it. Then today I was on the freeway and hit traffic all of a sudden and when I came to a stop the check gages light came on again and the oil pressure gage dropped to nothing. I pulled over, check the oil and it was full. I changed the oil and filter last week, the oil is clean, no water or debris of any kind in there. Did you find anythin out?
I finally got mine fixed. It turns out it was the oil pressure sensor. On the 4.7L engine it is just above the oil filter. The part was like $50 from the dealer and run down to Autozone or Pepboys and pick up an oil pressure sensor socket, otherwise you're not gonna be changing it. Its a pretty simple operation. Just unscrew and screw the new in. Just hard to see down there.
