Default Transmission lag.....HELP!!!

Has anyone encountered a lag in thier transmission from park to R or D? I am also noticing that it will jump from 1 to 2nd when I first put it in drive...and then just starts to roll in a higher gear which means alot of rpm but not really movement. This happens about 70% of the time I drive. after I get going I have no problems with the truck. It just recently started doing this after a 2000+ drive across the states since I am military. Please help.

Sounds like a Torque converter problem...

I've made that drive while hauling a lot of stuff with a Yukon Denali, and I would def recommend changing the Trans Fluid and Internal Filters, and also change the Rear Diff fluid.

That might be some of the issues... If the problem persists past that then you might be having torque converter problems.

Do you have a Check Engine Light?

got the check engine light, but I had that for the evap system, I checked the codes by turing the key three times and that only brought up evap codes.

fix the EVAP system codes and see if anything improves.

I'd still service the trans and diff fluids though.

Sounds like TC drainback. Only happens when you first start up/get rolling, then after that it's good?

yes only happens on start up after I get rolling its fine, by shutting it off and starting it usually helps it. what is TC drainback? Does that mean I have a clogged filter in transmission?

+1 on TC drainback.

What that means is your transmissions torque converter is draining the fluid out when it really shouldn't be. That's that would be causing it to lag like that on a cold start. Usually they only do that when a check valve going to the trans cooler is not there. However, I also believe you might not have TC drainback, but actually a clogged filter like you just pointed out. Do you know when your last service was? If not, go ahead and replace the fluid, ATF+4 only, and filter. If you can do it yourself it's much cheaper than going to a trans. shop and have them try and sell you a rebuild.

Try changing the filters (don't get the cheapy ones) and see if that solves the problem. Ifit doesn't, then you have drainback. It doesn't hurt anything, just means you need to let it warm up a little longer to give the pump a chance to fill the converter up before you go.

Mopar flat filter! No substitute! I cannot stress this enough. I've had nothing but problems with other brands, even Wix. The transmission filter is very touchy.

Definitely Torque convertor issue. How the heck did changing the rear diff oil creep into the mix though?
