Blower Motor Wire Burnt Melting Under Steering Wheel
So my blower motor works intermittently and I have to raise and lower my steering wheel or pop open the compartment beneath the steering wheel and jiggle the wires to get it to work. I took a look under there today to narrow down the culprit and I found the green wire charred and burnt. What do I need to do to fix this? Can I just splice in a new wire or do I need a new ignition switch? Maybe a larger gauge wire would prevent this from happening again? Please see pics attached.
Factory wiring was too small of a gauge to handle the amp load from the blower and would burn up in some models.
IIRC there was recall to replace the wire with a thicker gauge. The crimp splice there would be an incorrect fix.
You can see the factory wire burnt, the crimp, and the burn in the crimp where the resistance is highest post fix.
Since the plug is melted you might be SOL but try and pull the melted metal contactor from the plug, cut the splice off about a quarter inch before the burned insulator, strip it, and find a new metal contact to install with.
