Sounds like a happy end to a bad story for once.
Good luck and keep us posted, on how the rebuilt motor goes.

The rebuild was $2690 assuming the core is all usable. I thought they were going to charge me for another crankcase but I don't see that they added it to the bill. I had them do the remove and replace which is supposed to be $1351 but they discounted it $351. The rebuild included thermostat and spark plugs but I had to buy the water pump and hoses. Also quite a few exhaust bolts. All said with tax it was $4180. Mine is a 2500 so it might cost a little different. The guy at the shop did not recommend any chrysler engines with ending with a 7. I guess that means 2.7, 3.7, 4.7 and 5.7. He did think that my 2.4 engine in the Dodge Stratus is a good engine.

See, you can fix any problem by throwing money at it!

Joking aside... What's wrong with the 3.7/4.7/5.7 line? Aside from the 3.7 having no place in a full size, and the 4.7 being a tad on the economical side of things. The 5.7 is a great workhorse gasser. My buddy has the 1500 5.7 with a factory 2500 transmission and suspension package which he uses for towing regularly in his line of work. Having ridden shotgun while towing a heavy old S10 on a car hauler, his truck hit 55 faster than my 4.7 hits 65...

Its hard to find information on the average age or mileage of an engine before rebuild. I am guessing he was talking from a reliability point of few based on way they see. It would be nice to see information but I don't think any statistics are collected. Of caorse many are because of overheating or running low on oil. I bought my truck used with 125,000 miles on it so its to know how it was used before. I was certainly thinking that 200,000 miles was more the norm on the 5.7.
