Electrical Issue
I have a 2008 Ram Quad Cab Big Horn. When I bought it, I had a double-din Pioneer stereo installed to replace the factory stereo. Bought the new bezel, expensive wiring harness - the works! It worked great - UNTIL... my passenger-side rear blinker light bulb blew. Next thing I know the radio doesn't even come on. I take it back to the installer who resets the microprocessor on it and it works fine.
At the same time the dealership had it in for warranty work and did a tune up and replaced the alternator.
Three months later my DS blinker bulb blows and now my stereo, again, won't come on.
Could such a minor power fluctuation cause the microprocessor to trip??? Has anyone else had any similar issues???
(To top it all off, this just has not been my week for electronic devices! Since Sunday my new laptop crashed from Win7 updates, the blinker in my truck blew a bulb, the radio quit working, last night my backup netbook failed in the middle of a test, and when I got home yesterday, the pool pump was leaking at the seals....... LOL... )
Any help to the cause of my truck's stereo problems would be awesome!

Called the stereo installer who said that yes, a fluctuation in the electrical system in the truck, even as small as a blown blinker could trip the safety protect on the stereo. We changed the blinker bulb, diconnected the black batter cable, and voila'! The stereo works again.
I have no clue about the model number of the wiring harness but it was not the $10 one, it was the $70 one. There are only two that will work with the stereo I bought. One is a plain Jane model that will give the stereo power, but it will not have the same features as the factory stereo. It will not stay on once you turn off the truck. The other - the one that costs $70 - works exactly the same way the OEM one works.
Glad to have my stereo back again! Singing to myself was not cutting it.

I have never heard of a turn signal bulb burning out causes a stereo to go out..... that's a first for me.
I can only assume that the TIPM system is disabling the radio circuit for some reason, which is a new one for me, as the turn signal circuit should have nothing to do with the Radio Circuit.... but hey what do I know? lol
