2006 5.7V8 Hemi with gearbox woes!
Hey Dodge fans!
I posted on here some time ago about an issue I had with my truck and its gearbox. The help and suggestions have been extremely helpful thank you!! ...and I will be taking the advice I've been given on exhaust options..just as soon as its running right!
Running right is where my problem is! Since the gearbox rebuild, (which was carried out by an auto box specialist) I've had two problems, which may or may not be connected.
After the rebuild we replaced the trucks ECU which cured the original fault with the TCM.
Firstly.
Code P0871 - transmission fluid pressure switch/switch C circuit range/performance.
We have replaced this pressure switch but code still appears every time the gearbox changes down a gear during acceleration. If I drive the truck gently I can go for days without seeing it but as soon as I put my foot down and the box shifts down a gear, it comes back. This usually occurs when I pull away gently and then need some extra power so I put my foot down harder, the truck shifts down, revs get to 3000 and it shifts up (jerky change) and the engine management light comes on.
Other symptoms include:
Truck stalls occasionally when coming to a rest.
Gear change is not as smooth as it should be.
With fault code showing the truck won't change into low gear or overdrive.
When starting after being left for some period of time (overnight) it takes a lot of revs to pull away, this clears after a few minutes of running and it drives as normal.
The truck doesn't feel as lively to drive as it should.
Secondly,
I have a fairly loud hissing noise coming from the bell housing area. This hissing changes note with the engine revs both when in gear and in neutral.
Without the code showing the truck runs just fine, obviously testing performance isn't possible with this code issue but it has pulled like a train a couple of times so this makes me think this is more of a control, maybe electrical issue.
Any help or guidance would be gratefully received, I really want to get this sorted and get on with a nice exhaust on my truck!!
Many thanks,
Matt

I vaguely remember your post about what happened, so refresh my memory what exactly did the "specialist" do to your gearbox?
Did you use OEM Dodge Parts or did you use aftermarket parts?
My best guess here is that something wasn't re-installed properly which is causing pressure problems within the transmission... which could be related to a fluid filter failing, or the transmission pump itself failing.
Without knowing exactly what was replaced it will be VERY hard to troubleshoot.
If the "specialist" works for a "reputable" shop then they should be taking care of you without any problems.
Hey! Thanks for the reply!
In the UK auto boxes are a lot less common than manual boxes, and the same goes for the companies servicing them. The company I used is a local auto box specialist that came highly recommended. They have multiple workshop throughout the south of England, so without personal experience, they seem to be the best of my options.
When the box was rebuilt they've replaced all friction plates, the valve block (inc. solenoids) along with any other parts which were defective, I don't have a total list. I understand they have used genuine parts.
The company are being very helpful, but have asked me to look into a fault which they pointed out prior to doing any work on the truck, before they have it back. I've just been up to a friend with a ramp so we could check it out, see below...
Someone has made a pretty bad repair on this cable. I can only think this has been like it since I bought the truck in Miami 6 years ago, because I know it hasn't happened since being over here. One concern is this repair could've contributed to the original fault which caused the box to need a rebuild in the first place!?
I'm a marine electrician and more than capable of re-terminating this plug, if I can get the bits - anyone know if they are available and where from? I would need a replacement plug and all the pins that go into it, also a crimping tool if specialist. I'm also coming to Canada next week so hopefully might be able to pick up some bits.
I'm just really trying to get my truck running properly as quickly and painlessly as possible, so if that means helping the company out with some info, or checking out some cables then I'm all up for helping out.
Thanks for your help.

Hard to tell where that plug is on the truck... do you have a picture from a little further away, someone might be able to chime in on it.
What problem did they point out before they started the work?
You should have gotten a completely itemized list of parts they replaced on your work order... no?
In all honesty it kinda sounds like something didn't get put back into place just right....
