Default 2004 awd dodge ram fluids

I bought my truck used, and I am thinking about changing my tranny fluid. This might be a big "newb" question but do I need special transmission fluid or any other fluid since my truck is AWD? The manual truck doesn't cover anything about AWD that I've seen. Thanks.

Call the dealer and they should be able to tell you. Just saying. AWD I think is just covered as a 4x4. I have an AWD but it's an automatic tranny.

The O/M will provide useful info as well.

I have looked in the owners manual, I haven't seen anything distinct about AWD. I just wanted confirmation that the AWD trucks are the same as the traditional 4X4s. Mine is automatic as well. As far as the dealer, I haven't explored that route yet. Thanks.

The AWD uses the same fluids as the traditional 4x4's 1500. Auto transmissions use ATF 4 fluids. As does the transfer case and power steering fluid. You are right the manual doesn't say anything about AWD. If you do replace the transfer case fluid on your own I believe the capacity is different then the other transfer cases. It's the NV244. Somewhere on this site gives you fluid capacities for it.
