Default 2004 dodge ram 2500 diesel soft brakes?

I own a ram 2500 5.9 diesel and I have noticed that my brakes have always been soft.I bought the truck used in 2006.I changed out brake pads today, front and rear, bled brakes and they are still soft. Are diesel brakes supposed to be this way?The brakes do work fairly well even on a hard stop, they just seem to go way down on the pedal when braking hard. Please let me know if this how they normaly work.

a hydroboost system should kick back a little when pressed. Have you checked your power steering fluid level? Is the truck difficult to steer?

I would seriously suspect a problem with the hydrobost unit if not. Take it to a shop and have them check the unit.
