Default Tail gate caps and skidoos

Hi guys,
I have a predicament I was hoping you could help me out with. I have a tall truck cap on my truck and the rear door has worn a 1" band of paint off of the tail gate. This causes rusty water to bleed down the back of my truck... I would like to paint the damaged area and put a tail gate cap over it so the paint doesn't get worn down anymore.
It just so happens that I like to ski-doo and the carbides on the bottom of the skis nail the bed when I ride it into the back of the truck.
What are the chances of getting a tail gate cap that won't get torn off when I ride the sled into the truck or when I pull it out? Would it make sense to use a couple self tapping screws to hold the cap on during the summer and remove it when I want to load the sled? The screws would not be seen from the outside of the truck, the truck cap hasn't been off since it was put on 10 years ago.
Cheers, Steve

I would recommend the tailgate cap and liner. It covers the entire inside of the tailgate. You might need to 3M tape it to the bottom of the tailgate to limit it being picked up. They even offer one through the dealership at reasonable prices.

Cool, I'll have to see what they have when I go to pick up my exhaust manifold fasteners on the weekend.

I went by the dealer today and the OEM bed liner for the tailgate is only 60 bucks! Could somebody please measure how far down the outside of the tailgate the OEM liner goes? It would be greatly appreciated.

Left and right manifold bolts and 8 cap-on-coil o-rings where a measly 160...

Thanks, Steve

Rats, I have about 2" of damage down my tailgate at this point. I'll have to get something like the Bushwacker cap and cut about 1/2" off of the back of the top rail so it doesn't sit flush with the inside of the bed.
Cheers, Steve
