Default wandering wheel

Hey guys, recently purchased an 04 2500. The truck had a horrible wander in the steering, could move the wheel 3-4"s either way before it would turn. So I've replaced the steering box, power steering pump(whining badly) upper and lower ball joints, hubs and u-joints, tie rods are still in good shape. The steering wheel still has about an inch of play before the wheels turn, I tried adjusting the steering box today but it didn't make much difference. Checked the ujoints on the column and there is minor play. Any suggestions on what I may of missed or what else to look at? I'm going camping at the end of the month and the truck is scary to drive on the hiway. Thanks guys.

BCdakotaboy,

Congratulations on your purchase!

Have you checked to see if there are any outstanding recalls on the Ram? You can see if there are any recalls at:
http://www.dodge.com/webselfservice/...2Findex_en.jsp
Or you can PM me your VIN# for review and I can update your vehicle's owner information.

Keep me posted.

Thanks for the replies, truck has a 6" fabtech lift on 37" tires. I've only owned it since May, traded my 03 dakota straight across. Checked for recalls and nothing for the steering. I've pretty much replaced everything in the front end as well as dual steering stabilizer shocks and the upgrade kit to reduce death wobble. Think I found the problem tho.. looks like the steering box is worn out, got a replacement from the junkyard and it looks good, backlash falls within spec according to my dodge service manual. Stealership wants a grand for a new one, Not in my lifetime.
