Default need help with Viscous Fan Drive Wire

Somehow mine got cut in half, anybody else have this problem? Part of it is coming through at the bottom of the fan. I found this out because it stopped the fan from operating and truck started to overheat. Had to use baling wire to secure the bottom half of the wire away from the fan.
The fan seems to work just fine, no more heating up.

What does this wire do? Do I need it? Very tight space to work, don't know that I will be able to somehow be able to splice it back together.

Appreciate any help possible, I am currently on the road (camping).

Fan drive wire? There is no wire. Are you saying someone cut the coil of metal in the center of the hub? The fan is purely mechanical, there is no electrical piece.

Very poor design, it hangs behind fan and eventually gets into fan and gets cut!

I am still dealing with this.....I am currently living in my lance camper on my truck, camping out. I need to get this fixed and back on the road.
Have any of you dealt with this issue?
If I pull top part of shroud I can reach the top part of the wire I think and would be able to splice in new wire and hopefully secure it to the radiator, instead of $200+ for a whole new fan clutch.
Any of you done this?? Is it ok to do?
