Default Hemi engine replacement options

I've got a 2003 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with a 5.7 hemi engine with about 127000 miles on it.
One of the piston heads chipped and tore up the cylinder pretty bad so I'm looking at replacing the engine.
What I'm wondering is what are my options? Through a shop they're asking $6900 for a new motor, $6000 for a rebuilt motor, and $5000 for a used motor(those prices are including $1850 for labor). Money is really tight right now so I'm looking for other options. I'm mechanically inclined but I've never pulled a engine before. Would it be worth buying a engine online and doing it myself? If so, are there special tools I need? I have a slightly above basic tool assortment.
I've searched through the forums trying to find engine options and only found one. Anyone have suggestions as to where and what kind of motor I can get in Utah?

3150 for an engine seems high considering what these trucks are worth used. I'd buy a parts truck for a couple grand.

Those prices are way too high. Have you checked the junkyards for a used engine? If toy can find one the swap isn't too bad.

You can use any hemi from 03-08, you should be able to find something. Are the prices you got including installation?

If you know what they'll charge for labor I would do a junkyard pull like mentioned and then have them do the install if you aren't confident
