Smile 06 ram CTD 3500 ECD P0500

My 06 3500 CDT had several warning lights lite up. The check engine lite, the ABS lite and the P brake would flash if the p brake was set but would not go out if the brake was released, and the cruise control would not work. Error Code P0500 was set and would not clear. The indication was loss of VSS signal (vehicle speed signal). So I replaced the vss sensor on the top rear of the diff. No help. So I took the monster to a local shop to have it diagnose cost me $85.00. They said that the truck had an error code of P0500 and that it needed a new vss sensor. I again told them that I had told them I had already replaced it and they should tell me something that I did not already know. Finally they said that the truck had a defective ECM and it would cost $868.00 and take 2 or 3 days to fix. Not having a good warm fuzzy feeling about that shop I took the truck to a dealer shop, told them what was wrong, ecd etc. at about 8am. About 1pm I received a call from the dealer telling me that the bad news was that I had a bad wire loom and it would cost about $2650.00 to replace, the good news was that the tech working the trouble said that he could do an overlay (bridge around) the bad wire and it would only cost about $268.00 and I could have the truck by 5pm. So I guess there is something good to be said about dealer shops.
