Default Gas cap..... ?!?!?!

When I fire up my 07 after about 15 seconds I get a chime and an alert where my odometer reading is that says gas cap........

I tried a search first to no avail..... checked the owners manual and it says the cap is loose or missing...... neither of which are the case. Tried a new cap, not an OEM but will get one of those if need be. Talked to the guy at the parts store and he said a temp fix was to put petroleum jelly on the gasket and it should seal better..... again to no avail and since it was or would of been a temp fixed not really my way of "fixing" stuff.

So, what do I need to do to get this correctly working again and clear that damn code????

Also...... when I go to fuel up, there isnt a release of air like when I first got the rig..... I know thatll be a clue for some of you but I will be damned if I know the answer.

Please and thank you.

Your gas cap gasket is leaking. Since you have a new cap, try tightening it down another couple of clicks.

Exact same thing happened to me. I replaced my oem with one from autozone, and the problem persisted. Finally went to the dealer and paid 30 some dollars (grrrr), and with low expectations of it actually solving the probem, installed it right in the lot. The gascap message still appeared, but after a few driving cycles, it went away. Some things are just made better by the factory. Not an issue since. It's been about 10 months. Go to the dealer parts desk!!!!

Plus, it comes with a strap so you don't lose it!

sounds like you need one from the stealership. Bite the bullet in this case. If that doesn't work you may have a vacuum leak, but for your sake hope its the gas cap, far easier to fix.

Thank you for the help. I'm off to the dealership to grab one.
