Default paint peeling on 2006 Dodge 1500

The paint has started peeling on my 06 Dodge 1500. It is dark blue. Anyone else having this problem? Thought they corrected it in mid 90's

Welcome to DF.

How often do you wash the truck? What area of the USA do you live in? I previously owned a blue 2001 Dodge Ram, and I did not have any paint peeling issues with it.

I will move you to the correct section. For future reference:

Welcome to the site

I cars paint can peel at 1 yr or 20 yrs. As said above, how you take care of it means a lot also.

I've noticed that a lot of cars/trucks in the deep south that are dark blue have peeling paint, especially the clear coat. Doesn't matter if it's Dodge, GM or Ford. I've got a good buddy in south Georgia with an '08 Chevy truck that about two years ago already looked like sh*t on the roof and hood.

I'm seeing a lot of 04, to 06 rams with rust issues in the rear wheel wells, one or two suppliers makes paint for all the brands, so it's not reflective of what you drive..

Winters in Alberta start and end with salt..

Not around here they don't... Here in the City they let the white stuff pack-on the street until the emergency vehicles can't get through. Then the graders come out and play for 20-30 days to clear all the City roads up. As crazy as this might sound to many, I guess we just get used to it somehow.

On the plus side my '04 dark blue truck has no rust or peeling at all. Grant it I dab on some touch up paint on deep scratches and nicks I pick up along the way.

Factory paint peels because the US government only allows 1 mil of paint for single stage and 1.4 mils for a two stage (base coat/ clear coat) if you were to paint the car yourself one coat of paint would be about 1 mil.. so the paint is so thin that when the car is not waxed the sun eats up what little clear coat there is and once it becomes to thin its peels..that’s why it always starts on the top surfaces.. its not Chrysler's fault it the AQMD's fault..

Its possible that your truck could have been damaged too and painted before you got it too. Maybe a small dent they blended the color and cleared the whole panel and if the part where it was cleared was not prepped properly the clear would peel off.
