Warning Lights Galore
I have a 2003 Ram with hemi engine. It is 10 years old and has only 45k miles. My check engine has been on for awhile but was told by dealer it was only the gas cap so I didn't worry about it. The other day my airbag light came on and then throttle control light a few days after. Got it into the dealer and after 4 days and $600 I picked it up. They replaced a computer box under seat which fixed the airbag light, and other lights went off because they had battery unhooked. The very next day the engine and throttle control lights came back on. The throttle control light makes it want to die at idle. Got it back to dealer which kept it for 4 more days. Picked it up this time to find out they had changed vacuum hose and cleaned some parts. Was told that if lights came on again that they would replace entire throttle system which is $700 for parts. Been driving a couple days now and good so far. My problem is dealers guessing at parts to replace. Do they have the same scanners and computers as the one I bought at Wal-Mart?
Welcome to DF.
Some dealerships are called $tealer$hips. They like to guess at parts because its easier than actual troubleshooting, gets you out the door faster (even if you have to come back), and in the meantime you are paying for the parts.
While their computers will tell them which sensor is generating the warning light(s), some sensors can be triggered by many different sources.
My advice: find a different dealership.
