Default Worn tie rods?

Had my tires rotated today at Les Schwab and afterwards they tried to tell me that both upper ball joints needed replaced and all inner and outer tie rods needed replaced as well due to play. Do ram's have a tendency to wear out tie rods? I have not had any steering problems with the truck, no noises and alignment has been fine. 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Is it something that i need to worry about right now? I'll definatly take it to my mechanic to see what he thinks before I believe a 20 year old working at les schwab. thanks.

I can't say what's up with your truck but those free rotations and inspections can come with a catch... On the other hand, suspension problems can be missed for a long time because nobody lifts vehicles wheels off of the ground to do oil changes anymore. Those drive-on lifts are the worst.

My guess is that youd notice significant play while driving, but there is a chance it is so minor you arent noticing but they noticed on the alignment rack.

Either way this is a very easy area for them to rip you off. Tell them if they want your business they have to put your truck in the air and show you the play. If they say no, say sorry bye bye.

Boots may also be torn and allowing contaminants inside the joint, but either way the real indicator for replacement is play.

I did upper and lower ball joints and one tie rod end at 111K. Sounds 'bout right for yours.

I did my outer tie rods, upper control arms and lower ball joints at 90,000 miles. The parts were worn out.
