Fuel Pump failed on 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 - Question
Weeds last post just outlined the way to troubleshoot the issue to see if it is the Fuel pump or not.
I work on electronics for a living, I have seen my fair share of things just stop working by coincidence. I once replaced a part on a machine, then 2 days later it started having a related intermittent issue it did not have prior to replacing said part. Logically I believed it was the newly installed part, but it was not. It just so happened another part causing this new problem
However, I would logically believe that something could have been done during the detail to have caused this. But only troubleshooting the issue and finding the cause will lead you in the direction you need to go. Otherwise it is strictly an opinion or a possibility that they caused it. BUT small chance the pump just went out, if it is the pump. Could just be a broken wire, etc..

I just had my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 in to the dealership for a serious detail job including the engine and underbody. When I went to pick it up the truck would not start and I am now told that the Electric Fuel Pump on it has gone and needs to be replaced. Is it possible that this was caused by the detail job that was done on the truck, or just a coincidence?
I have put 3 f/p in my 04 in 1.5 years ! Original pump had to b replaced because
The plastic rotted causing evap leaks . # 2 was a airtex that lasted aprox 4
Months then it developed a check valve failure that caused prolonged and hard
Starts . When I pulled it out somthing internally failed ( melted) black sooty crap being fed
To engine , replaced under warranty . # 3 airtex again did same dam thing aprox 4months
! Had to bite the bullet and buy OE , at about 3months now . Don't buy a airtex they fail sending black silty S##t to you engine. I emaild them no response , shocker !

And no it's not bad gas , I only use quality fuel from well maintained stations
Plus I switch after the first airtex failure just to b safe.
I have no idea why oe pumps upper plastic rotted and cracked
I bought it like that.
This truck is killing me! In the 1.5 I've owned it I've had to rebuild rearend,
Recirc door , fuel pumps, valve springs . And it only had 38,000 on it when I got it 50,000 now . All on my tab no help from dodge total shame.

Thanks. About 15K on airtex so far. No problems yet (knock on wood).
I've got about the same on my Airtex. Replaced the OEM in May. So far, so good. It did look just like the OEM. Also, I must say the installation was not as easy as some have made it out to be. Yes, getting the tank down is gravy, but after that, disconnecting the fuel lines is a total bitch. Without the proper tool, you will probably break the fitting. Then, the so called flexible fuel line isn't flexible at all and will kink if you look at it sideways! I thought I had the job done, and as I was slowly jacking the tank into position, I noticed the plastic fuel line was bent in half. Had to bring it back down, and install a new fuel line from auto zone. Installed that and guess what, same thing. About as flexible as a soda straw. Finally found a high pressure rubber line, and that did the trick. It may be different for me as I have the 34 gallon tank, other than that, the guys who say "it's only four nuts for the straps" must have a totally different truck than me!!
Next time I'm removing the bed, I think it will be less hassle.
