Default NEW Member HELP

Not sure what I have to offer in return but I need some assistance. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but like the rest, strapped for cash and try to do as much repairs on my own.

My issue is with my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 w/4WD

I have a knocking and whining noise coming from front left tire area. The truck is driveable but the knocking when hitting a bump sounds terrible. I tried the truck in 4WD and the whining noise only occurs while backing up but still the knock sound when hitting a bump. I am embarrassed to say that I have been driving my truck in 4WD Hi daily for the last 3 months. I have nothing else to drive. I have been putting some funds away to fix but would like some advice and possible diagnosis before having to take to a mechanic. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Check front hub bearing. Jack the truck up, push/pull on the top and bottom of the tire. Ditto on 4 high on dry pavement.
