4 wheel drive auto is stuck on and won't start now...?

4 wheel drive auto is stuck on and won't start now...?
Hey guys and gals, this is my first time on the site, also my first post.
I drive a 2008 ram 1500 sport with the hemi, just today on my way to the restaurant I clicked into 4 auto to get through a drifted portion of road. Once I was free and clear I clicked it back into 2wd and the 4 wd auto just sat and flashed at me and never switched back. So from there I clicked it back into 4 auto and shortly after arrived at the resteruant (5 km later), when I shut it off it didn't sound right, tried to start it again and nothing with the 4wd light still flashing at me I tried disconnecting the battery with no luck, made sure it wasn't frozen up underneath then I found I was low on front diff oil so I tried topping it off in the parking lot with little luck. I was just wondering why it won't start? Are these two issues connected some how? Where do I start looking?
