2007 1500 Steering Problem
Hi all...I am hoping to get some information and help with my wife's truck. She has a lifted 2007 Ram 1500 4x4 crew cab with 20 inch wheels and 35 inch tires. Last night we left our house and it started making a "clunking" sound (sorry don't know a better way to describe it) in the front end. We were only going about 20 mph and she has not hit any big bumps or anything like that recently. We turned around to take the truck back home and the steering wheel began to wobble back and forth and started pulling to the left...we were still going about 20 mph. Today I jacked it up and checked tie rods and ball joints the best I could. They looked ok and there wasn't any play in the 12 and 6 oclock or the 9 and 3 oclock. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that could help us. Thanks
I am betting it's the Outer Tie Rod End, or a sway bar end link popped off...
Could also be a wheel bearing.
Start the truck and turn it full lock in each direction with the FRONT wheels off the ground and look for play.. you'll see if the tie rod ends are screwed, those are the most common.

Curious.... What lift are you running?
Spacer kit upfront will cause clunk.
Stock struts with spacer kit will cause clunk.
Stock struts w/spacer kit are overextended and "top out" and are prone to a super early death.
Check your rack for any leaking at the bellows. This would mean internal leakage. Also, with your truck parked Not running and key in acc position, jerk the wheel to the left and right to feel any clunks.
You have inner tierods inside the bellows that can fail as well. Try it when running and parked as well.
