need help with command start
im looking to install a command start on my dads truck he has a 2004 dodge 1500 would like to do myself so dont have to pay anyone but i hear i need a bypass. is there a way i could avoid getting one of these because no one will flash it if they didnt instal it. could someone help me out i heard you could do it with relays. and if possible point me to a wiring diagram thanks.
Welcome to DF. Will move you to the correct spot.
Are you referring to a remote start? If so, you can typically buy the bypass yourself from various places online. Far easier. Unless you really know your way around electrical wiring/electronics, I wouldn't even attempt to make your own.

Bypass modules...You get what you pay for!
You can get a cheap one that is otherwise called "hide a key in a box". You'll have to give up a working key. AND you'll have to wire up like 11 or so connections. Time consuming and not all that cheap once you consider the fact you have to give up a key. The good, is these dont need to be programmed.
Then there are cheap programmed units where you don't ned to lose a key. Be careful of these. They need to be programmed. AND if so, the firmware may not be supported any longer so you'll be dead in the water from what I understand. I dont think you will since you have a 2004, but people with new vehicle would be. These modules still need ALOT of connections made.
Then there are more advance modules that run via canbus. These you can program a key to so you don't lose it and there are genrally 3 or 4 connections at the steering column only. You dont have to go digging in the door or anywhere else because it runs off of canbus equip circuits.
Programming: The modules come pre-oprogrammed generically. You might find one that suits your needs without needing to have it programmed. BUT, you are taking a chance.
There are Sellers that will program for you IF you give them your information. I see Ebay sellers willing to program them all the time. For Most programming needs....This is merely to allow the use of factory Fob. If you choose to not have them programmed, they will still work, but you will not be able to use the lock/unlock buttons on your factory remotes. The bypass modules will still work with the remote start unit because you'll program that upon install.

Will merge this thread with your original, since it is the same issue. Please do not post in the general Ram section, but in the right subsection.

I have the by pass and was programmed but I dont know where to hook the ground while running wire. But when I press the command start power goes on the stRter wire but no cranking occures is this because of the bypass?
