Default Security system/module

The other day I went to start my 2006 Ram 1500 Big Horn Edition. Started up without a problem but then a few seconds later it died. Started again and same result. Tried to start again and nothing happened when I turned the key, no starter click or anything. Tried shifting to N and starting...nothing. Back to P and tried... nothing. All electric components worked fine, but truck would not start.

Took it to my mechanic who said the only code that it was kicking out was one referencing the security module. Thinking back I have had some spotty off/on issues with the key fab, but figured maybe it was just the battery in the fab so wasn't concerned. However, this now makes me think it's all related. My mechanic was able to "manually reset" the system by unhooking battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting. Truck started and ran as expected. However, this is obviously a work around and not a fix. My mechanic doesn't mess with the software systems in vehicles for the most part, and recommended talking to dealer. I call the dealer and explain the situation and the code that was thrown but also tell them that the truck is now running again. They say they can't really diagnose/fix a vehicle when it's working properly, so they advise waiting to see if it happens again and then having it towed in. That doesn't make me feel real good considering they have no idea what could make it happen. This time I was lucky enough to have it happen at my house, but who's to say it won't happen in a more inconvenient location next time.

After some online searching i've seen similar posts, but most mention that their alarm systems were going haywire as well. I didn't have that issue. Basically my truck just shut itself down and wouldn't allow it to be operated.

My question is just how have other people dealt with this, and what kind of expense to expect if this needs to be a dealer replacement.

Thanks

Bumping in the hopes someone will have dealt with this before. Truck has been running as expected for two days since it was "fixed", but still concerned about the possibility of this being a recurring problem.

This happens sometimes when the key's lose programming.... try a spare programmed key if you have one... or go buy a replacement programmed key....
